I just wanted to let everyone know that I am aware that there are strange characters in my blog every so often. As I see these, I will edit the postings to remove them, but it could take some time :)

Made the Jump to LightSpeed!!

August 4th, 2008 by baker7

Sometimes in life, things just seem to go your way. This last month or so has been good in many ways, and good things ARE happening. I have decided to purchase an XBOX360 because of the fact that I love to play games online, and this will be my first NEW machine since approximately 2003. I had the opportunity and the means to purchase it, so I figured I would go with the “top of the line system”, which is the Elite.

I have been playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare since early friday evening, and it is awesome!! I am able to communicate with people all over the world, in the same manner I do on the PC, and I have been able to make some new friends. I have to say that I am still rusty with the invites and messaging parts, but I am getting there. I had a friend help me with the gameplay, so I knew what I was doing, and I have enjoyed it.

Hooray for me - 360 is MINE :)

Domains: I Got One :-)

March 1st, 2008 by baker7

Yes, folks, Buddy has a domain name!!

I have acquired www.brian-baker.us for my website use! Not only that, but I have found a Host, and a server and an IP address as well. The server will most likely run debian or Ubuntu! The server was given to me for my own personal use, and I will have it colocated in Barre VT - so, I can not only learn how to build websites, but how to administer a linux server that I will own - I mean, a raid server, with about 5-6 drives in it, and this thing will be about as powerful as the IBM Netfinity I used last year.

Second, I had my backup machine taken offline a couple months before Christmas - she blew a motherboard, so I was given a new machine to replace it. Now, I am told that my friend will fix it up for me, and load an an OS on it for me, so I will again have 2 machines to help me in my quest - wish me luck as I move forward :0

In Memorium

July 15th, 2007 by baker7

On June 15, 2007,  I lost my Gram Williams.  She was a really sweet lady, who cared about everyone.  There was a poem that was left at the back of the funeral home as I walked outside.  I post it here, in memory of Gram.

AfterGlow:

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times, and bright and sunny days.

I’d Like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,

Of happy  memories that I leave when life is done.

Rest In Peace, Gram - You were amazing ;)

WyldRyde: My New Home

June 5th, 2007 by baker7

I just wanted to start out by saying that I have been interested in finding an irc server or network that is better then all of the others that I have used. Most irc nets are full of spam, trolls, and undesireables, and since the closure of the TFN IRC server in 2004, I have been interested in finding another server and home for my channel.

This has occurred! I have chosen WyldRyde to be my new home for irc chats. to that end, I have created a channel there, and also uploaded the Wyldryde Java Chat Applet control to Kromhout.us!

There are several reasons that I have chosen WyldRyde, but the most important to me is the fact that it just “feels” like home - I have memberships on many forums on the internet, and 3 of these forums (BT, G2G and BC) have have chat channels on wyldryde. The staff there is helpful, underrstanding and kind, and VERY professional. I can also consolidate and use wyldryde to get assiatance with my Malware Removal Training - all very good reasons for making this choice.

To check out WyldRyde - Go to http://www.wyldryde.org They are in the midst of a fundraising drive, so Please donate what you can! This is an awesome place ;)

To Connect via webchat to my chant Channel (#bakers_place):

1. Go to http://www.kromhout.us/~bsbaker/html/chat.php

2. When you get to this page, it will load the webchat applet for wyldryde - This may take a few moments to load. If you get a “Security Warning” box, just click “run” and the java applet will finish loading.

3. When it finishes loading, you will see a window open on wyldryde - You will autojoin the channel #bakers_place - Your Nickname will default to ‘bakeruser???”, with ??? being a 3 digit number - to change the nickname, type /nick Yournewnick and press enter, and the nick will change.

4. Please be respectful of the people within my channel - also be sure to follow any instructions given by the Channel Operators (anyone you see with a @ next to thier name is a channel Operator.) I may not be in my channel 24/7, but the people I have chosen for Operators are on the server quite a bit and will not hesitate to warn you if you misbehave. Repeated misdeeds will result in a ban of a least 2 weeks on bakers_place - It is my cyberhome, and if I don’t want something happening on my channel, it won’t happen. Please do not force me to take more serious actions - If we all behave, it won’t be necessary ;)

Thanks Wyldryde, for allowing me to share in this experience - You have made a former (TFN) Global Operator very happy

Homeward Bound: Moving Home :>

March 14th, 2007 by baker7

Tonight, as I write this, I have been on the phone a good part of the day.  After a well-rounded workout at the gym, playing soccer with my friend George, I returned home.  I have my moving date, which is March 23rd.  With this information in hand, I now had to contact my phone company and Cable C0mpany to set up service move dates.  These completed, I needed to co-ordinate with my aides so that I could have them help me pack up for the move on the 23rd, and prepare the apartment after I vacate - Broom clean with clean kitchen and bath.

Next, I have to email my family and friends about the move and alert them to the move.  Been working  on sending mail to “undisclosed recipients” for this purpose, as I don’t wanna advertise who gets the mail message ;)  I have one minor problem with server “relay.verizon.net” blocking or interfereing with mail from kromhout dot us being able to send mail to verizon dot net subscribers - will deal with that later

I will miss my Manor Friends  - but this is something I have wanted for years - so in less then a week, I will move back home - and FINALLY get that HOT shower I have wanted :)

More Later :)

Webpage Updates/ TFN Shutdown/New Host/Thank You’s

February 25th, 2007 by baker7

I guess this is a good a time as any to inform my readers that in the next few days I will be working on my new website. It is at http://www.kromhout.us/~bsbaker/index2.html.

As I posted in early January, my longtime web and shell host, Tallahassee Freenet (TFN) in Tallahassee, FL has decided to cease operations as of May 31, 2007. This means that I have been working really hard to get my files, website and other miscellaneous files over to my new host.

My TFN.Net website will be taken down and visitors to my TFN site will be redirected to kromhout.us as of April 15, 2007. On that date, users will find the index file there will redirect them to my new host - This may happen earlier then 4/15 if I can get all of my files organized and determine that my TFN files are no longer needed.

However, If they are, I may just leave the HelpLink Database there. I will be checking mail on TFN daily until the day of the shutdown - Once this happens , my mail address at TFN will *NOT* function, and my visitors should be perpared to mail my verizon address as wll as my kromhout.us address for anything related to my websites.

My Verizon Website will be UNAFFECTED and will be maintained - However, I may not update that site as much as my primary site. Because of my long years of service to TFN, I plan on keeping the TFN site on Kromhout.us as an archive - This means that the TFN site will NOT be updated with new information, but will be used as a guide in constructing other sites.

I would like to say thank you to all of the people who make and have made TFN possible for as many years as they have! I owe a debt of gratitude to these people that I would NEVER be able to repay, and I would not be able to continue my work without the generosity of Mr. Ethan Kromhout - He has made it possible
for me to have a home again - I owe him a BIG one!!

I have officially been accepted at Geeks to Go (GTG) for Malware Removal Training.  This will include learning how to use Hijack This! (HJT) and other tools that help you to remove baddies from your computer.

Once Completed, I will be able to assist users with removal of the malware, spyware or adware problems they may experience.

However, I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT do any logs for HJT until I complete this training!!

 Wish me Luck!!
